At Creekside Smiles, we believe in preventing problems before they start. That’s why we recommend scheduling regular dental checkups – every six months – so that we can monitor your child’s smile. It’s recommended that children see a pediatric dentist Charlotte parents recommend when their first tooth comes in. And we couldn’t agree more. By seeing us early, you’re also getting your child comfortable with having someone examine their teeth.
We also recommend sealants. Sealants protect your child’s teeth from harmful bacteria by sealing off the fissures and pits from bacteria that can build up in the crevices. If your child is prone to getting cavities, we highly recommend sealant for your child’s teeth.
It happens. Children can easily chip or crack their teeth and even need fillings. Here’s the good news: due to advancements in dental technology, we can create composite fillings that look better and more natural for your child. The technology allows the filling material to bond to your child’s natural teeth. Plus, this new technique makes it so much easier for us to repair a cracked filling. And the best part? They’re composite fillings, so they look and feel like your child’s natural tooth. In addition to composite fillings, we also offer tooth-colored and stainless steel crowns, as well.
It’s only natural for a child to sometimes feel scared about coming to the dentist. We want to alleviate those fears so that you and your child have a positive experience.
Laughing gas helps to relieve nervousness and fear. The overall effect is relaxing, and your child is awake throughout the whole procedure, only calmer and more comfortable. The effects quickly wear off, and children are able to go about their day like they normally would.
If you have a child with special needs, we want you to know that we will work with you to make sure that all their medical, physical, and cognitive needs are met. This requires very individualized service and a team that is dedicated to details. In talking with you, we’ll find what works the best for your child. In addition, we work toward building a relationship with your child at every visit so that they feel comfortable when we give them the care they need.
We believe every child deserves a great smile – just like you do. We will put forth the extra love, care, and time needed to give your child a smile that will last a lifetime.
We follow the guidelines set by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, which recommends a child’s first dental visit be scheduled when the first tooth comes in and no later than a child’s first birthday. Creekside Smiles Pediatric Dentistry specializes in infant oral health exams and parent education.
By explaining procedures and demonstrating the equipment in fun and imaginative ways, we help children learn to be comfortable with our office. Parents are welcome to accompany children into the treatment area, where we will start with a complete review of your child’s medical and dental history.
At your initial visit, our talented and compassionate team members will spend quality time getting to know you and your child. We will examine your child’s mouth, teeth, and gums, and evaluate any habits, such as thumb sucking. Dental x-rays are only taken if necessary, followed by oral hygiene instruction, a cleaning, and fluoride varnish application. If your child is reluctant for the dental cleaning or x-rays, we may recommend postponing that portion of the procedure until a later time, unless there is an urgent need or concern. At the conclusion of the comprehensive examination, any dental findings and treatment will be discussed.
Creekside Smiles Pediatric Dentistry provides long-term comprehensive pediatric dental care to our patients that allows them to grow and thrive, including orthodontic care.
As a parent, if you have concerns for your child’s smile regarding crowding of the teeth, thumb sucking habits, underbite/crossbite, or protrusion of front teeth, you can discuss treatment options with our orthodontist during your appointment. Sometimes the appointment with our orthodontist would be for informational purposes or to establish a treatment plan for the future. If the situation warrants it after an examination, an immediate treatment plan may be recommended.
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and The American Association of Orthodontists recommend that children have an orthodontic evaluation at age 7. During your child’s routine dental exam, the pediatric dentist Charlotte, NC parents trust will be able to determine if an earlier visit to the orthodontist will benefit your child.
By the age of 7, most children have adult or permanent teeth that have erupted in addition to the remaining baby or primary teeth. By this age, children may experience dental crowding, too much space between teeth, protruding teeth, extra or missing teeth, and sometimes jaw growth problems.
When parents are considering having an orthodontic evaluation for their children, it is important to note that there are benefits to early treatment. The advantage for children of early detection of orthodontic problems is that some problems may be easier to correct if they are found and treated early. Waiting until all the permanent teeth have come in, or until facial growth is nearly complete, may make effective orthodontic treatment of some problems more difficult.
